Community Support Workers assist participants in their own homes and/or in the community with the goal of enhancing participation in the community and maximizing independence. The worker will support participants with activities as varied as attending a community college course, attending the gym, travel training, cooking simple meals, shopping, swimming, eating out etc. This may involve transporting participants to an activity and/or venue (by car, walking, bus or train), assisting the participant to complete the activity (providing support in the classroom, swimming or walking in a pool, doing the gym class etc.) and some direct personal support (changing clothes, cutting up food, behavioural support etc.).
