Passenger
While in Year 12 and looking forward to his future and what adult life would hold, Qaa’im was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. The day had started out with a family celebration and ended in tragedy, with Qaa’im being rushed to hospital due a serious brain injury he sustained as a passenger in a speeding car. The accident has impacted not only his life but produced a ripple effect impacting the lives of many family members.
Qaa’ims engaging personality shines through as he shares a very personal story which resonates strongly with teenage students and adult risk takers alike. His message to young people is clear “If you are every placed in a situation where you don’t feel safe, just ask the driver to pull over or slow down. I don’t want kids to speed, it wrecks lives.” His strong commitment to community education is evident as he encourages others to take responsibility for their own safety.
