Thanh’s Story
Having risked his life to escape from Vietnam with his family, there was no way to know that just a few short years later Thanh’s life would be in jeopardy again. It was during the first year of a maths & science degree at university that Thanh suffered a heart attack at the train station one morning. The cause was an undiagnosed heart condition but the effect was hypoxia. A lack of oxygen to the brain that resulted in permanent brain damage.
Life has changed dramatically for Thanh as a result of the brain injury. Unable to return to study he feels he has lost his independence and has ongoing problems with memory and concentration. By sharing his story Thanh hopes to encourage others to be” more patient and understanding with people who have had an acquired brain injury.”
