By Miliza & Thi “Now I’m In Control”
Headway ADP is committed to assisting people achieve their life goals. One common objective as carers age and family situations change is to ensure that our participants find suitable accommodation with the support they need, so they continue to live a life that is not only fulfilling, but maximises independence.
Independence is critically important to Thi, as is making her own decisions about life and exercising choice and control.
Thi loves the community and her relationship with Headway ADP. Through her Service Coordinator Maria, Thi has had comprehensive OT assessments and strong advocacy to ensure that she was not only approved for a suitable residence , but that she was also able to navigate the psychological stress that comes with making the decision to move. Through a 3 month wait for the NDIA to actually approve the placement, Thi and Maria kept faith in the longer term goal, and were not prepared to lose the opportunity, in spite of one offer being lost through NDIS tardiness.
So the day finally arrived and Thi moved
Thi is very happy with her new place. She loves being independent doing the things she likes on her own. She has met some neighbours around her place socially. and is more confident around people. She also appreciates being close to Parramatta Westfield shopping centre. In Thi’s words………
Being independent is a dream come true. I learn things that I don’t know, I have more confidence to learn new things I also know that people can hear my voice and listen. I’m scared but I’m ready because I know Headway ADP staff and people are always there to help and guide me. I also have a new bed, chair and my own furniture., which is great.
